Welcome to the School of Medicine and Surgery

Uniquely positioned to meet the evolving needs of tomorrow’s health care professionals, University of Milano-Bicocca’s School of Medicine and Surgery (SMS) is a Master degree program in academic partnership with the University of Bergamo and the University of Surrey (UK) and in clinical partnership with the prestigious Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital (Bergamo). The program endeavors to offer a multidisciplinary and inter-professional educational experience fostering an integration of knowledge and skills, open-mindedness, scientific and critical thinking, caring attitude, and a holistic approach to health care needs.

The program uses state-of-the-art educational curriculum and gives hands-on experience throughout the medical degree.

Our students come from different backgrounds and find themselves welcomed by leading faculty who are ready to train the next generation of clinicians and researchers.

History

The School of Medicine & Surgery (SMS) was launched by the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milano-Bicocca in academic collaboration with the University of Bergamo and the University of Surrey (UK), and in clinical partnership with the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital very recently in 2017. SMS degree program combines basic science and clinical activities taught exclusively in English over a period of within a six-years, during which the students earn 360 ECTS.

The course is Inter-University and the Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery is issued jointly by the University of Milano-Bicocca and the University of Bergamo. The title entitles the students to apply for admission to second level Masters, PhD or Specialization Schools.

The School of Medicine & Surgery (SMS) is a highly innovative program where we combine progressive medical education and patient care with world-class research and outstanding teaching facilities in order to develop Professional Knowledge, Skills, Values and Behaviors.

Its founding principles are based on the importance of integration of the biomedical paradigm for curing disease with the psycho-social and humanist paradigm of compassion for the patients.
